 City co-champions Madison Memorial and Madison Edgewood each had four players named to the Madison All-City girls soccer team.
Five of the members of the 14-player team selected by the five city coaches also were chosen last year: Edgewood forward Claire Kinderman; the Memorial duo of defender Abby Beinlich and forward Kendra Loch; and the Madison La Follette pair of defender Elise Olson and forward Morgan La Plant. Edgewood senior defender Beth Schramka made the All-City team for the third time, after also being selected in 2006 and '07. For the first time in recent years, the coaches did not name a Player of the Year.
In another change, the All-City team wasn't honored at the 22nd annual banquet, which was held June 1 at Edgewood High School. Memorial and Edgewood were awarded the Bob Widmer Trophy for the city championship and the seniors from each team were recognized at the event, which was sponsored by the Breakfast Optimist Club of Madison. Each of the five teams also had a scholar-athlete award winner. Loch was the only player to make the All-City team and claim a scholar-athlete honor. Goalkeeper: Katy Pilarzyk, so., Madison Memorial.
