Prep BoysMadison Memorial senior forward Cody Banks stood calmly at the top of the box with his hands on his hips, waiting.

Waiting for the referee’s whistle. Waiting for his chance to finish the night right, in a fashion that would’ve sent former teammate Michael Sheahan leaping for joy.

But it just wasn’t meant to be for Banks or the Spartans on a wet, chilly night at Mansfield Stadium. Forty seconds into the second overtime, Banks’ penalty kick hooked wide left, and Memorial and Madison West battled to a 2-2 tie Thursday night in the Big Eight Conference opener for both teams.

Milwaukee Wave to join XSL PDF Print E-mail
By Eric Anderson
Sunday, 31 August 2008 21:25

Milwaukee WaveThe Milwaukee Wave will be a charter member of the Xtreme Soccer League, which apparently will be one of two rival indoor soccer leagues starting this fall.

The Wave previously played in the Major Indoor Soccer League, which disbanded in June. At least three other former MISL teams also will be in the XSL: the Chicago Storm, Detroit Ignition and New Jersey Ironmen. More details about the league is scheduled to be unveiled Sept. 16.

In addition to the MISL, Milwaukee also has played in the American Indoor Soccer Association and the National Professional Soccer League during its 24-year history. Media reports indicate that several of the other former MISL teams will be part of another new league.
