It was just a preseason match, but it was a big one for Brad Ring.
The former Princeton-56ers standout finally made his debut for the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, playing all 90 minutes as the Major League Soccer team opened its preseason schedule with a 3-0 victory over amateur club Real San Jose of the National Premier Soccer League in Oakland, Calif.
"It felt great to get out there today," Ring told Center Line Soccer, which selected him as its Man of the Match. "Toward the end of the game my legs were feeling a bit heavy. We’ve had a long and difficult two weeks of practice, but it felt really good to play again."

Racine native Jesse Marsch, a Major League Soccer original and the most-decorated professional soccer player in Wisconsin history, announced his retirement today after 14 seasons and was named an assistant coach for the U.S. national team. (Video below)
The defensive midfielder won MLS Cup in each of the league's first three seasons, with D.C. United in 1996 and '97 and the expansion Chicago Fire in 1998, and also claimed four U.S. Open Cup titles in his career.
Marsch, who spent the past four years with Chivas USA, is one of three men to play in all 14 MLS seasons – one of the others, Steve Ralston, was named a player/assistant coach for AC St. Louis of the new USSF Division 2 league earlier this week, leaving D.C. United striker Jaime Moreno as the last MLS original.
